Ход урока.
12 Good afternoon. Glad to see you colleagues, guests, girls. Today we’ll speak about going shopping, that’s why we must repeat words and expressions connected with clothes, perfumery, stationary and other departments. At the end we must write down a plan for your shopping story.
But first, let’s do some phonetic exercises. Repeat after me:
Sister Susie sits and sews sailors’ shirts.
You have got a red dress
She has got a blue dress
She has got a green dress
But I like brown.
You have got a yellow dress
Yellow is for happiness
Black and white look all right
But I like brown.
3. Look at the blackboard! You see a very interesting proverb. Read and translate!
A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.
Is it right or not?
a Now let’s read the names of some departments: footwear, underwear, perfumery, ready made clothes, leather goods, haberdashery, hosiery, stationary, textiles.
b Translate from English into Russian and from Russian into English ( слова и выражения по различным отделам магазина)
c Am I right or not: a mink cap – беличья шуба
a marten collar – кружевной воротник
boots with zippers – туфли с пряжками
lace underwear – кожаные кроссовки и т.д.
d Widen a model:
I am looking for a blouse.
I am looking for a black blouse.
I am looking for a silk black blouse.
I am looking for a silk black blouse with long sleeves.
I am looking for a silk black blouse with long sleeves and a beautiful collar.
4. Now let’s read and translate two little texts:
I am very pleased to talk about clothes. They are something that I am really interested in. I like to have pretty dresses of the latest fashion and style, well-cut tailored costumes, nylon stockings, well made shoes.
In the morning I generally wear a blouse and a skirt or a jumper and a skirt, especially in winter. In spring or summer I like something lighter, and I wear a cotton or linen frock and a hat to match. In the evening I like to dress for dinner, especially if I am going out to a theatre or a dance. My favorite is a black evening dress, beautifully cut. With this dress I wear platinum and pearl earrings and a necklace of pearls.
For tennis I wear a short white linen dress, and for the seaside a beach dress.
In the morning I take off my pyjamas, have my bath, and then put on my vest, pants, shirt, collar and tie, socks, trousers, waistcoat ( or sometimes a pullover) and a jacket. When I go out in winter I put on an overcoat or a raincoat, gloves or a hat, or sometimes, in the country, a cap. If it is very cold, I sometimes wear a scarf round my neck. My clothes are not very expensive. I like rough tweeds or a sports jacket and flannel trousers. These clothes are very comfortable for walking in the country, for climbing or for golf.
5. Many people are interested in clothes. Where do they go if they want to buy some clothes? Of course, to the shop! In every shop there are many departments with clothes. Sometimes we don’t know what to buy and need somebody to recommend. The representatives of some boutiques are here. Listen to their advice.
( дом. задание: подготовить описание модели. Группа поделена на 3 подгруппы)
6. In any big shop there are different signs. Let’s read and translate them:

7. Dear girls, in Britain shops have fixed prices, but you can bargain in street markets. There is a proverb: “Make the best of a bad bargain.”
Listen to the dialogue, try to understand. After listening we’ll collect the dialogue from parts.
— Oriental carpets! Best prices! Genuine Oriental carpets…top quality…How about you, madam?
-Yeah. Nice carpets. How much is this one?
-Ah, very nice, this one . It normally costs two hundred in the shops. I get them direct from the factory at a very special price.
-Oh, yeah? How much is it then?
-You can have it for a hundred and fifty.
-Oh, that’s too much. Sorry.
-Wait a minute…for you, special price. A hundred and thirty.
-Oh, I don’t know.
-This is my best price.
-Mm. I like it. I like the colors, but…
-Where are you from?
-Chicago, Illinois.
-Ah, I’ve got a brother in Chicago. Great price.
-Yeah.
-Look. Just for you. A hundred and twenty-five.
-No…It’s still too much for me.
-Make me an offer…
-A hundred?
-You’re joking! It cost me a hundred.
-You paid a hundred for it?
-Yes! This is top quality.
-Oh. A hundred and ten?
-A hundred and fifteen for cash. That’s my final price. It’s a bargain!
-OK, OK, it’s a deal a hundred and fifteen.
8. Now let’s read the dialogue. It’s a very nice dialogue because it shows how goods must be sold. I offer you to sell any kind of goods from any department.
( предлагается составить диалог в паре)
9. Now it’s quite time to ask and answer questions about shopping in order to make up a plan of a story. Pair work.
